MASR
This was probably the riskiest shoot I’ve done. But also the most rewarding one. For so long I’ve wanted to capture my home country, Egypt, through my own eyes. This year, I finally got the chance. What I didn’t expect was how challenging it would be.
There were so many shots I wanted, so many things I wanted to experiment with, but filming in public there isn’t always easy. I got stopped a few times, questioned about why I was holding a camera, but it only made me more determined.
The conversation at the end is something I wrote myself. It’s about that strange feeling of returning somewhere you’re from but haven’t been in a long time, wondering if the place and the people still know you. I don’t get to visit Egypt often, and every time I do, that feeling hits differently
